"Martin's work clings to the memory like the scent of incense in a church. Each line pushes the reader further into doubt as to what is human and what is divine. That doubt is vital, as poet and reader are both. Martin writes so potently that one feels they should roll up the pages and smoke them after they're read. Transcendent. Poetry as a Schedule I substance." - Meg Elison, author of The Book of the Unnamed Midwife and the Road to Nowhere series. While I wait to be a god again is an evocative collection of poetry that plays with the line between what it means to be human and what it means to be divine. It is an expression of bemused disillusionment after growing up to find that adulthood is filled with people that are as equally lost as you. Yet, somehow, finding humor in the pain and ennui of that discovery. This follow-up collection to Martin's debut, The Playground, is for those that enjoy the magical realism of Neil Gaiman's American Gods or poetic voices such as Hal Sirowitz, Beau Sia, or Mary Karr.

Paul Monette鈥檚 fierce and arresting collection of poems on the death of his partner from AIDS

Following his partner Roger Horwitz鈥檚 death from AIDS in 1986, Paul Monette threw himself into these elegies. Writing them, he says, 鈥渜uite literally kept me alive.鈥澛燘oth beautifully written and deeply affecting, every poem is full of anger, sorrow, tenderness, and a palpable sense of grief. With graceful language and emotional acuity, Paul Monette captures the enormity of a loss that ravaged a generation. But even more than they are about tragedy, these poems are about love. Each moving line is full of love for one who is no longer there, but whose presence is still achingly felt at every turn.聽Love Alone is remarkable for its honesty, its passion, and its depth.

This ebook features an illustrated biography of Paul Monette including rare images and never-before-seen documents from the Paul Monette papers of the UCLA Library Special Collections.

IRL is a sweaty, summertime poem composed like a long text message, rooted in the epic tradition of A.R. Ammons, ancient Kumeyaay Bird Songs, and Beyonc茅鈥檚 visual albums. It follows Teebs, a reservation-born, queer NDN weirdo, trying to figure out his impulses/desires/history in the midst of Brooklyn rooftops, privacy in the age of the Internet, street harassment, suicide, boys boys boys, literature, colonialism, religion, leaving one's 20s, and a love/hate relationship with English. He鈥檚 plagued by an indecision, unsure of which obsessions, attractions, and impulses are essentially his, and which are the result of Christian conversion, hetero-patriarchal/colonialist white supremacy, homophobia, Bacardi, gummy candy, and not getting laid.

IRL asks, what happens to a modern, queer indigenous person a few generations after his ancestors were alienated from their language, their religion, and their history? Teebs feels compelled towards 鈥渂oys, burgers, booze,鈥?though he begins to suspect there is perhaps a more ancient goddess calling to him behind art, behind music, behind poetry.

A book of stark poetry with no frills, these poems are about topics ranging from earthquakes, to confronting one's own privilege. It includes moments of sadness about lost love and moments of heart-warming remembrance. Whether you are looking for a poem about taking joy in the most mundane objects (empty boxes, beets, etc.), or a poem about falling in between the gender spectrum, this is the book for you. I cannot promise it will change your life, but I do promise that each one is written from the heart, with all honesty.

Rough cuts are the unfinished pieces聽before sanding, varnishing, polishing, and editing is applied.

We spend most of our time avoiding splinters, jagged cuts of metal, only to realize thses shards are much a part of us. We're often touched by unkindness and sharp words that prick our soul. We may weep at these rough cuts, but it is the roughness that gives texture to our lives. We become stronger and can see the beauty shine from amongst the brambles.

These poems are meant to be a testimony to our honesty as humans. The poems might seem personal, but what is personal is also universal. I invite you to dive in and see my truth, but perhaps find your story as well. These poems seesaw between poignant and humorous.
